PhD studies at Forest and Landscape
The Research School for Forest, Landscape and Planning (REFOLANA) offers international postgraduate courses to PhD students related to the management continuum from unmanaged forests to urban areas in both developed and developing countries.
The Research School is mainly affiliated to the interdisciplinary research environment at Forest & Landscape at the University of Copenhagen. It is a part of The Faculty of Life Sciences and supported by the Danish Ministry for Science, Technology and innovation.

Forest & Landscape also participate in the world-class Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Programme FONASO, which is a a fully integrated three-year doctoral programme.
Activities:
PhD programmes at Forest and Landscape include projects from different research disciplines: Natural sciences, socio-economics and politics. A uniting feature is focus on processes and developments in forest and landscapes, and in sustainable use of products hereof. Most PhD-projects have a component of applied research, and many projects therefore involve cooperation with public and private organisations as well as landowners.
The activities within the PhD programme specifically for Forest and Landscape include:
- PhD courses in cooperation with national and/or international partners, open to international students.
- Series of national seminars
- Summer schools
- Seminars on research ethics and related topics
- Training in supervision
- Workshops and networking activities for PhD supervisors and PhD students.
