Research in Physical Planning and Management

We focus on the processes of planning and management of the physical environment

A key interest is examining the interplay between statutory governmental procedures and trans-governmental governance processes in city planning, regional planning, national planning and sectoral planning related to spatial planning.

The core research questions are:

• What kind of theoretical framework is needed to grasp the contemporary planning process, on the one hand, increasingly characterised by pluri-centric and non-hierarchical decision making – on the other hand, increasingly dealing with project and transition rather than masterplans and growth?

• How do planning authorities adapt to the turn from rational comprehensive planning to strategic development perspectives?

• What are the new roles and responsibilities in physical planning after the latest administrative reform in Denmark?

• What kind of recommendations is possible to design for practical planning and policies?

Collaboration

We cooperate with Nordic and European researchers as well as Danish Universities and Institutions, that is Aarhus School of Architecture and the Universities of Aalborg, Roskilde and Southern Denmark.
