Research in Urban Forestry and Urban Greening
Trees, parks, woodland and other green spaces in or near urban areas improve the quality of life and environment in urban societies.
The central questions for our research are:
- How can the ‘green infrastructure’ of cities be assessed and what is the role of different green elements?
- How can urban and peri-urban green spaces contribute to more attractive and competitive cities?
- Who is involved in green space governance, planning and management and how can decision-making be improved?
Our research has given us a position as an international leader in the fields of urban forestry and urban greening and we have undertaken research across the world. We coordinate the Nordic-Baltic Centre of Advanced Research on Forestry Serving Urbanised Societies (CARe-FOR-US).
We have a strategic partnerships with a wide range of international organisations, including the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), FAO and IUFRO.
