Deliverables

The following are deliverables prepared based on the networking activities.

 

Data

D1: Compilation of meta data on National Forest Inventory (NFI) SOC databases and other observational SOC databases. Analysis of coherence, spatial distribution and comparability considering potentials for Nordic (and neighbouring countries) extrapolation and mapping exercises.

 

D2: Compilation of meta data on experimental SOC data, short- and long-term management trials. Analysis of complementarities, comparability and important data gaps considering the major drivers of SOC accumulation or release.

D3: Extrapolation of C sequestration estimates to the Nordic level based on simple empirical models (Akselsson et al FEM 2007, Berg et al Silva Fennica 2007) and by state of the art dynamic models (Ågren et al Biogeochem. 2008; Wallman et al FEM 2005).

D4: Estimates of the role of forest expansion (natural succession or afforestation) in soil C sequestration.

D5: Analysis of current soil processes understanding and knowledge on impacts of drivers on soil C
sequestration for formulation of new research strategies and approaches. Identification of gaps in knowledge, data gaps and model improvement needs.

D6: Advice on management practices and strategies that protect or increase the soil C sink.

D7: Advice / knowledge transfer to national Kyoto reporting (as well as post Kyoto reporting) activities.

D8: One (or more) research proposal(s) based on the network.
