Approach

The approach of the FSC-sink project focuses on SOC amounts and their long-term changes in response to management and environmental drivers rather than on large in- and out-fluxes of CO2.

The network will make use of unique long-term experiments that allow investigation of impacts of management or environmental factors on C sequestration (e.g. experiments on intensive fertilisation and harvesting, stump removal experiments, tree species trials, fertiliser experiments, nitrogen (N) deposition manipulations (NITREX incl. 15N) land-use change chronosequences). Moreover, the network will promote the development and use of models of C and N cycling such as the ForSAFE and Q models. These models have been used in numerous national (Sweden) and international applications related to C and N cycling for different climate, deposition and forestry scenarios.
