Research in Christmas Trees and Greenery
Our interdisciplinary research team specializes in topics related to the culture of Christmas trees and cut branches for decoration.
Our research is closely linked to the Christmas tree industry, which is a specialized industry with a considerable in-put of technical and biological know-how.
We fokus on developing methods, products and knowledge that improve economic return and environmental sustainability simultaneously.
Current research topics include:
- Fertilization, nutrient uptake and environmental impact, including recycling of nutrients from waste products from animal production and energy production
- Insect and pest problems – management, improved knowledge of biology, interactions with host, site and climate, as well as development of sustainable control methods, now and under climate changes
- Improved genetic plant material – new species, provenance testing, breeding and seed supply assisted by field trials and biotechnology
- Phytohormones in relation to growth, cutting production and plagiotropic or ortotropic growth
Collaboration
We maintain a close dialogue with organizations in the industry, as well as with related research colleagues nationally and internationally, such as networking through IUFRO and Nordic forestry groups within specific disciplines.
