Strategies for ‘Green Growth´ of food and fibre production are critical to global sustainability (OECD 2011). The 'Pathways' workshop to be held in Copenhagen September 2-3, 2011 initiates an international multidisciplinary network to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing between experts on agricultural landscape systems who inform policy makers in selected OECD countries. Its focus is upon the intersection of global dynamics with local landscapes.

 

The September meeting will launch a work programme to identify effective pathways to improved sustainability of agricultural landscape systems under different regulatory and incentive regimes. The workshop will identify innovative examples of effective policy practices, constraining factors, and ways to overcome barriers to success, with a focus upon integrated outcomes at a local level.

 

Programme  

The meeting is an invitation only event with keynote speakers, emerging researchers, and policy analysts and advisors involved with landscape policy research at various levels and scales.

The 'Pathways' workshop will build upon recently published work that analysed the effects and intersections of the global open market and sustainability agendas in local landscape systems across a range of developed countries (Primdahl J and Swaffield SR 2010 Globalisation and Agricultural Landscapes, Cambridge University Press).

 

The workshop is a collaboration between the Forest and Landscape Denmark, Copenhagen University and the Centre for Land Environment and People  (LEaP) at Lincoln University in New Zealand .

 

Speakers have been sponsored by the Co-operative Research Programme on Biological Resource Management for Sustainable Agricultural Systems of the Trade and Agriculture Directorate of the OECD.
