Urban and Landscape Studies
In the division for Urban and Landscape Studies we work with planning and management and people’s use of cities and landscapes. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is also an important field of work.
Study Programmes
The division contributes to the following programmes:
Research
Our research creates new, independent and reliable knowledge. Through basic and applied research it contributes to creating cities and landscapes that are environmentally and naturally sustainable, offers attractive and healthy living environments for humans and are the foundation for cultural development and economic activities.
We focus on driving forces and development tendencies for urban and rural areas, spatial policies and their consequences for ecolgy, economy and living conditions in rural areas, peoples’ use and understanding of urban environments and nature as well as design and planning of cities and landscapes. GIS is an integrated analysis tool.
The research is organised around the following research groups: Urban Design and Regional Development, Physical Planning and Management, Outdoor Recreation, Nature Tourism and Landscape and Countryside Planning.
Consultancy and communication
The researchers of the division are closely connected to the planning sector, i.e. municipalities, state, regions and NGOs, which often collaborate in research and development projects in Denmark as well as internationally.
We hold conferences every year about topics such as rural management, urban development, countryside development and outdoor recreation.
Collaboration
We collaborate with Danish and international partners on projects, research programmes, education and exchange. The collaboration applies to authorities, NGOs and research partners in Denmark and abroad.
