Economics, Policy and Management Planning

In the Division of Economics, Policy and Management Planning we work with current social issues of human use of and relationship to the environment, nature and its resources – in Denmark and internationally.

 

The main research approach is social science, but with a close integration of natural science and humanistic competencies and methods.

 

Study Programmes

Our teaching is key to a number of study programmes at University of Copenhagen and LIFE, as we:

 

• provide courses in nature policy, management etc. on the BSc in Natural Resources
  
• have a heavy responsibility in the MSc programme Forest and Nature Management; especially within economics, sustainable planning, modelling, but also conflict management
  
• have developed and manage the international Erasmus Mundus MSc programme Sustainable Forest and Nature Management
  
• contribute to the MSc programme Agricultural Development, and have developed and manage the international Erasmus Mundus MSc programme Sustainable Tropical Forestry
  
• are the driving force in the development of specialization opportunity in Global Environmental Governance, which we run in collaboration with other faculties at the University of Copenhagen.

Research

Research develops dynamically and constantly. We pursue interesting social issues and concentrate on areas in the research community, where we can make a difference, contribute to creating new knowledge and extend the research. The main part of the divisions research lie within the following fields:

 

• Economics, policy and management planning with focus on Economics of Forest and Nature, Environmental Governance and Behaviour and Environmental Management and Planning, respectively
  
• Developmental and environmental studies with focus on Governance and Policy Processes and Rural Livelihoods and Environmental Reliance, respectively.

Consultancy

We often do consultancy jobs within the range of issues where our competencies lie. This involves everything from analytical works to development jobs and reports.

 

The clients are especially public authorities and institutions, specifically Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs/DANIDA, but also e.g. the Danish Economic Councils (DORS).

 

Collaboration

We collaborate with a long list of researchers, institutions, businesses and authorities, nationally and internationally on education as well as research, development and consultancy.
